SSSC37 Red Toned Pirate Glass Pendant Necklace
Unique necklace featuring a natural pirate glass pendant accompanied by 2 wooden beads.
Pirate glass dates back to the 17th-19th centuries when thick tinted glass was used on ships to transport goods. Sam collects pirate glass from the West Cumbrian and Northumbrian coasts which, at first glance, looks black but the colours within shine through when held up to the light. The last photo shows how different pendants shine different colours with a light behind them.
This pendant will look black when worn around the neck but it has a very slight red/pink glow when held in front of the light. The colour shade differs depending on the light source used and is a great example of why this glass is sometimes called "secret glass".
Due to the dark colour of the glass, Sam has created a touching sentiment card that reads "Hello, I am here to remind you that even in the darkest places you can find light and beauty. Much love". The necklace is made of copper-brown coloured cord with a standard iron based and zinc alloy clasp. The beads are recycled from vintage necklaces.
Necklace cord measures approximately 32cm when fastened at its shortest length and 35cm when fastened at its longest length.
Glass pendant measures approximately 2.5cm W x 3cm H x 1cm D. Beads measure between approximately 0.5-1cm diameter.
